Happy Teacher's Day!

It’s Teacher’s Day!

I can’t help but to look back and reflect on the years that I have been teaching. It’s been 16 long years……....... Have I been good enough in making a difference in the lives of my students and their families? Have I been fulfilling the Lord’s calling to teach and make a mark in this world by taking care of His little ones? I hope so!  I was in 3rd year High School when I first started teaching. My first exposure was in Sunday School! I was in that ministry for a looooong time. I got involved in Daily Vacation Bible Schools, AWANA, Puppetry; children’s worship and camps. Sunday School helped me developed my creativity and this is when I discovered that I actually have skills in the performing arts. My involvement and my love for children paved way for me to realize that I was called to teach. And accepting the call to teach God’s Word opened up to me as the most exciting invitation I could ever receive; a step out beyond myself and a start of a unique adventure with Him.

It’s great to be a teacher! Especially in my case because I don’t only teach in Sunday School but also in the real world. I get to enjoy going on fieldtrips and learning with the kids for free! I get the opportunity to exercise my creativity on a daily basis; I get to enjoy paid leaves while on long vacation; (especially when I was still teaching in the Philippines); I get all sorts of training and get to upgrade myself on a regular basis; I feel loved and respected at all times almost everywhere; I get to share my thoughts and make a mark in the lives of the children without arguments! hahaha isn’t teaching the best job in the world?

One of the greatest fulfillment I consider as a teacher is that I think I got to build a strong relationship to many of my kids and their families that they still get in touch with me in spite of the distance and my students becoming grownups! What a thrill to hear from them how they are doing in school or how successful they are in their own fields. Yes! I have kids who are now working and making their own great contributions in the society! I can’t believe I’m that old now, but I tell you, I can’t express how grateful I am and honored that I became a part of these children’s lives!
My first batch of students who are mostly graduates now and successful in their own fileds.
They are now my Facebook friends! LOL

I couldn’t seem to count anymore how many times have I already sang Hokey Pokey or the National Anthem; how many times I have attended a birthday party in school; cooked and baked with the children; danced and performed with them, countless lesson plans, evaluations, concerts and plays I have made. I wonder how many children have learned how to eat vegetables or stopped drinking milk in the bottle just because Teacher Ana said so.

And I wonder how many of my children will still remember me when they grow old, graduate and have their own families……..

Well, it’s great to be a teacher!
I will forever be grateful that the Lord gave me this gift. And I am thankful that I had such a wonderful Sunday School teacher (Ate Rose) who led me to the Lord 27 years ago during her class. If she didn’t say yes to God’s calling, I wonder where I am now.

Thank you Lord for all the wonderful teachers out there who are continuously making a difference! My commitment and passion to serve You in this ministry will forever be in my heart and with that, I hope that You are pleased!

Praise the name of the Lord Jesus forever who is the Rabbi and the Master Teacher of all time!
I see this SMILE almost everday
because I teach! :-)
