Children are a gift from God, and hold a very special place in our hearts. And as any person knows, out of the mouths of babes come amazing things! Now I hope that you will laugh as hard as I did when I first read these, so let us begin.......

Kid's Bible Lessons:
A Sunday school teacher was telling her class the story of the Good Samaritan, in which a man was beaten, robbed and left for dead. She described the situation in vivid detail so her students would catch the drama. Then, she asked the class,
"If you saw a person lying on the roadside, all wounded and bleeding, what would you do?"
A thoughtful little girl broke the hushed silence,
"I think I'd throw up."

STORY OF ELIJAH
The Sunday school teacher was carefully explaining the story of Elijah the Prophet and the false prophets of Baal. She explained how Elijah built the altar, put wood upon it, cut the steer in pieces, and laid it upon the altar. And then, Elijah commanded the people of God to fill four barrels of water and pour it over the altar. He had them do this four times.
"Now," said the teacher, "can anyone in the class tell me why the Lord would have Elijah pour water over the steer on the altar?"
A little girl in the back of the room started waving her hand, "I know, I know," she said, "to make the gravy!"

A Sunday School teacher was describing how Lot's wife looked back and turned into a pillar of salt, when little Johnny interrupted, "My Mommy looked back once, while she was DRIVING," he announced triumphantly, "and she turned into a telephone pole!"

A Sunday school teacher asked, "Johnny, do you think Noah did a lot of fishing when he was on the Ark?"
"No," replied Johnny. "How could he, with just two worms?"

A Sunday school teacher said to her children, "We have been learning how powerful kings and queens were in Bible times. But, there is a higher power. Can anybody tell me what it is?"
One child blurted out, "Aces!"

SUNDAY SCHOOL
Nine year old Joey, was asked by his mother what he had learned in Sunday school.
"Well, Mom, our teacher told us how God sent Moses behind enemy lines on a rescue mission to lead the Israelites out of Egypt. When he got to the Red Sea, he had his engineers build a pontoon bridge and all the people walked across safely. Then, he used his walkie-talkie to radio headquarters for reinforcements. They sent bombers to blow up the bridge and all the Israelites were saved."
"Now, Joey, is that really what your teacher taught you?" his mother asked.
"Well, no, Mom. But, if I told it the way the teacher did, you'd never believe it!"

THE LORD IS MY SHEPHERD
A Sunday School teacher decided to have her young class memorize one of the most quoted passages in the Bible; Psalm 23. She gave the youngsters a month to learn the verse.
Little Bobby was excited about the task. But, he just couldn't remember the Psalm. After much practice, he could barely get past the first verse.
On the day that the kids were scheduled to recite Psalm 23 in front of the whole congregation, Bobby was so nervous. When it was his turn, he stepped up to the microphone and said proudly,
"The Lord is my shepherd and that's all I need."

And to that I say a big Amen!

A New Beginning - my first day in school

It was my first day in school today. I was so excited that I got there too early and the school was still locked. Booooo to me! hehehe

Generally, my first day of assisting was really fun. I joined Ms.Jo on her 3's and 4's class (they say "ms" instead of "teacher":-( The routine is almost the same in the Philippines though the load here is a little lighter because teachers only handle 1-2 subjects like English and Math or Science and PE etc. In Manila, pre-school teachers handle ALL subjects. Gosh, toxic! Anyway, the class started with "Circle Time" and we had singing and dancing with the kids. I learned a new action song today called the "chicken dance!", and I found the kids really cute dancing and stomping and walking like chickens as the music played. Then Ms.Jo went on to teach English. Her letters for today were M and N. What caught my attention during her teaching was the sound of the letters she mentioned to the kids. She said that the sound of letter M is "ma" and that N is "na". I didn't think that was right but I kept quiet because I'm new and I am not even fully hired yet so I don't think I have the right. It was a good thing though that teacher Jo asked me a little later if that was right and I told her that as for me it should be "mmmm" not "ma" and "nnnnn" not "na". The technique is to pronounce the letters without a vowel in the end. Say for example the word MEN, if we will follow the sound "ma" the kids will read MEN as "MAEN" and worst if N is "na for them, they might even read this as "MAENA". whoa! terrible! But if you teach them just the sound mmmmm,,, the kids would be able to blend the word MAN as they say MMMMM AAAAAA NNNNNNN = MAN. Well, that's just a tip. And for parents, my suggestion is to teach your kids the "sound" of the alphabet first before teaching them the "name" of the letters. Because kids will NOT be able to read by knowing the letter names but by blending the letter sounds and that's what we simply call PHONICS:-) At the later part of the day, Ms.Jo taught Parts of the Fish for Science class.

The highlight of my day was the time I spent with the kids at the library while waiting for their mom, dad or yaya to pick them up. Kids would come to me and ask me about dinosaurs, solar system, sea creatures etc. Then came this little girl who requested for me to do storytelling of Jack and the Beanstalk. I was already in the middle part of my story when another teacher told me to take note of the kid behind me because he might fall. When I looked around, there were already a lot of kids crawling around me wanting to hear the story. It was really cute to see these kids very eager to learn. Too bad Ms. Meenah (the owner of the school) called to speak with me and so I had to stop my story. The childen were frustrated!:-(

The main challenge that I see in any case I work in this school is the language barrier. My goodness, when they all start speaking in Chinese, I'm just so totally lost! Also, I met 48 kids with mostly Chinese names!!!! And I had to memorize them! waaaahhh!!!!! I guess I will be forced to learn the language slowly or else I'm dead. hahaha, Other than this, I think the whole teaching adventure waiting for me is going to be a productive and a very interesting one. Praise God!

Bring me back to my first love

Bring me back to my first love

is what pray for,

My passion, my heart,

My purpose, my life.

Since February, I have been asking the Lord to bring me back to my first love........ teaching! And a few days from now, I am claiming that he will make this prayer a reality. He has always been faithful in terms of guiding me in my career, and I trust that MRC Learning Centre will be the school He has prepared for me.

Since my teenage years I knew I was called to teach. And it's for same reason that I am going back........

That is, to make a difference in the lives of the young ones and their families.

So please Lord, lead on! :-)
